Underage Drinking: What Parents Need to Know | Alcoban Nasha Mukti Dava

Underage drinking is now becoming more and more common. Many young people nowadays are dealing with the consequences of drinking too much, at far too early an age. As a result, teenage drinking is a leading public health problem in the country.

As children grow up, they encounter many physical, emotional, and lifestyle changes. Developmental changes, such as puberty and increasing independence, have been linked with alcohol use. So in a sense, just being a teenager is a big risk factor not only for starting to drink but also for dangerous drinking.

Effect of drinking on teenagers

Teenagers are more vulnerable to alcohol-related harm than adults. The brain keeps developing until the mid-twenties. Drinking alcohol as a teenager significantly increases the risk of damage to the developing brain and also leads to alcohol problems later in life.

      Decreases ability to pay attention

      Difficulties with memory

Increases risk of the brain being smaller in certain parts

Unlike adults, young people tend to mix alcohol with other substances, usually marijuana

Statistically, male teens who drink heavily are found to complete fewer years of education compared to their peers who do not

The younger a person is when they start drinking, the more likely they are to become an alcoholic in the future

Alcohol consumption is the common link behind nearly half of all violent deaths involving teenagers

Intoxication has been linked with suicide attempts using more lethal methods, and positive blood alcohol levels are often found in people who commit suicide

Teens who drink are more likely to be the victim or perpetrator of a sexual assault

Excess alcohol use can lead to mental issues such as anxiety or depression

Alcohol consumption can lead to the use of other drugs, such as marijuana, cocaine, or heroin

What should parents do

Parents should communicate clearly with their teenagers about the negative effects of alcohol, as well as about their expectations regarding alcohol use. Clear communication has been found to decrease underage drinking significantly.

Adequate supervision is a useful deterrent for alcohol use in youth. Most often, alcohol, and other drug use, occurs between the hours of 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., immediately after school. Therefore, encourage your children to take part in extracurricular activities to keep them occupied and busy.

You should also educate your children about appropriate coping and stress-management strategies.

If you notice that your teen has started drinking, then you need to figure out measures to get him/her to quit alcohol as soon as possible. Get them away from the company of friends who drink and also communicate clearly and gently to encourage the child to stop drinking.

If they have become addicted, get them the help they need. After quitting they may experience withdrawal symptoms. During this period, homeopathic medicines can be very helpful. We suggest Alcoban Drops. Alcoban is an anti-addiction treatment that significantly reduces the severity of withdrawal symptoms. This will allow your teen to get through this phase more easily. And although not recommended, Alcoban can also be given without the user’s knowledge. It is colorless, odorless and tasteless. It can easily be mixed in with meals or water. This should only be used as a last resort.

The best course of action is to give Alcoban with the full knowledge of the user. It is a 45-day course that is immensely effective.
